Letting Go

As a single mum you’ve already let go of so much. You’ve let go of the hopes and dreams that you invested in your past relationship, the idea of seeing your child grow up within a secure family unit with both parents living and co-parenting happily under one roof. Perhaps you’ve had to work  hard (as I did) to let go of the love and trust you had for your partner as you accept the new reality of life as a single mum. But what about the healthy and beneficial aspects of letting go? It may just be time to let go of your perfectionism – sometimes good enough is just that in your quest to be superwoman. I certainly advocate finding safe and effective ways to let go of your hurt and anger, so that you can step forward into the light of a brand new day. And as you help your precious children safely negotiate the uneven path of childhood and adolescence (with all its high and low points) you’ll be able to let go of them to take their place as adults, safe in the knowledge that you’ve been there to help them every step of the way.
